Dr. Heather Lawson, PsyD is a licensed clinical psychologist currently in private practice in St. Petersburg, FL. Dr. Lawson specializes in psychotherapy with individuals who struggle with a wide range of psychological diagnoses, particularly mood disorders, such as anxiety and depression. Dr. Lawson has received intensive training in evidence-based treatment approaches such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Family Therapy, as well as Psychodynamic Psychotherapy treatment models.

Dr. Lawson received her doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and completed her pre-doctoral internship at Manhattan Psychiatric Center. Prior to entering into full time private practice, Dr. Lawson worked as a Supervising Psychologist at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital’s Center for the Intensive Treatment of Personality Disorders where she provided individual psychotherapy, as well as group psychotherapy. Dr. Lawson was the Consulting Psychologist at the Mood and Anxiety Disorders Program at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, overseeing neuropsychological assessments and the clinical treatment of individuals following their participation in research protocols. She provided psychological treatment to mentally ill individuals with a criminal history at Kirby Forensic Psychiatric Center. At Kirby Forensic Psychiatric Center, Dr. Lawson concurrently held positions as the unit psychologist and Treatment Team Leader, which included the implementation of hospital policies and supervisory services for the hospital staff.

Dr. Lawson believes that it is ethically and clinically important to provide her clients with empirally-based treatment models, specifically, those that have been shown to be effective based on research. Over the past 20 years, she has been involved with research studies focusing on contributing factors of the development of psychiatric disorders, as well as determining which therapies are most successful with regard to treatment. Essentially, Dr. Lawson believes in bridging the gap between research and clinical practice and results of her research studies and knowledge of Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Metallization can be found in book and journal publications. She has presented information related to treatment of mood disorders, substance use disorders and conduct disorders at 10 National Conferences including most recently the efficacy of Dialectical Behavior Therapy for the treatment of substance use disorders at an annual conference of the New York Society of Addiction Medicine.
